- MATURE CONTENT GUIDELINES -
Pornographic content isn't allowed per the ProBoards Terms of Service, (and their briefer Community Guidelines), which I'm sure you've read before signing up. Even if it was allowed on ProBoards, it also wouldn't be allowed on the NIGHTFORUM, being a public forum that children (of any age) are able to access without being required to log in or go through another kind of age screening before viewing content on here. Those are the two reasons why NSFW/18+ content is not allowed on the forum, while they are allowed in the 18+ channel of the Discord server, where neither of that applies. That said, what is actually considered as NSFW/inappropriate content varies person-to-person, and website-to-website; deviantART prohibits pornography, but absolutely will let you post explicit sex or the most bewildering fetish artwork, as long as it doesn't meet certain visual criteria, while on Neopets you can't say the word cucumber. And, especially when it comes to art, there's a rather large gray area between tasteful nudity or expressions of sexuality, and pornographic artwork... so this guide is meant to clear up what exactly is, and isn't allowed to be posted on the NIGHTFORUM! - How mature content is defined in the NIGHTCORNER -
The guidelines for what's allowed and what isn't, are mostly based on what would reasonably be okay to show to a younger child browsing the forum, or not. Whenever possible, use your own common sense before posting anything on the forum, keeping in mind that because the forum is a public space, your posts should be appropriate even for someone younger than 13 to come across - because they will!
What this means is that generally speaking, sexual content or talk shouldn't be on the forum, but nonsexual nude or reference to mature topics are fine, within reason. It's okay and normal for a child to know what a naked body looks like, or to have heard of sex; but not for them to be exposed to pornography, or sexual discussions.
We make a distinction between mature content and NSFW, and how these should be handled:
- Mature content is any content that's better suited to an older audience.
All NSFW is mature, but not all mature content is NSFW. For example, artistic nude, difficult topics (such as abuse or death), or horror are usually mature, but not NSFW.
Mature content is allowed on the forum, as long as it isn't NSFW/otherwise inappropriate for the forum, and as long as it's properly warned for and hidden.
Mature pictures and forum replies should be placed inside a spoiler tab, with a content warning placed before them that explains what they were spoilered for. If your thread is about a mature topic, a warning should be placed in the thread title, and content warnings should be put at the top of your post, before the text, but conversation after that point won't need to go in spoilers if you've done that. Mature pictures should still be put in a spoiler even in a mature thread, though.
- NSFW content is any content that isn't appropriate at all for a younger audience, or the kind of content that could get someone in trouble if they had it on their screen at work or at school.
For example, pornographic and suggestive images, sexual discussions, and lewd memes are all NSFW.
NSFW content isn't allowed at all on the forum, not even if warned for and hidden. You may also not link to NSFW content or websites, or explain others on the forum how to get there.

- Nudity, Suggestive Images, & Sexual Content -
There are no definite boundaries between nudity, suggestive images, and sexual content, but there are some general guidelines to determine which is which. Nudity is in general allowed on both the NIGHTFORUM and the general channels of the NIGHTCORD, as long as it's not suggestive or sexual, and as long as the images are properly hidden and warned for. Suggestive images and sexual content aren't allowed on the forum at all, even if they don't contain any nudity! Below are explanations of what is considered nudity, suggestive, or sexual each, and when something is or isn't allowed. The explanations contain text descriptions and examples.
{NUDITY}Nudity means an image contains a naked body, or shows a person's exposed genitals or naked chest. It's still nudity even if the genitals in the image are covered up, censored, or not shown, but a naked person is shown (for example, in Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, the ladies depicted are abstracted to the point you can't make out their genitals, but they are still obviously naked). It's also still nudity if the subject is not technically naked, but their genitals or naked chest are still shown (for example, in Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People, the woman personifying Liberty is clothed, but her breasts are out). - Nudity in artwork is allowed when clearly not meant to be sexual or suggestive.
This could include, for example:
- Nudity in studies: life drawing studies, studies of nude forms not taken from pornography, and anatomical studies.
- Nudity in narration: a person bathing or a witch emerging from a bog has a narrative reason to be naked, and that's fine, as long as not sexual or suggestive.
- Nudity as expression: a naked body can be used to express or convey something, for example a person's identity, or a concept, such as in Jean-Léon Gérôme's Truth Coming Out of Her Well.
- Nudity in character design: a character reference sheet could have their unclothed body on it for clarity, which is fine, within reason - it shouldn't depict fetish (such as hyper-anatomy) or excessive detail (like erection, cum, or anus color).
- Nudity in reference/study material is usually allowed, when clearly for that purpose.
This means, for example:
- In photography & videos: nude or near-nude photos or videos of people are allowed, only if these were taken for the purpose of reference- this means linking to line-of-action's nude photo reference tool is allowed, but r/normalnudes isn't, even though the latter isn't a sexual space, either.
- In illustration: anatomical diagrams and references are fine to have nudity.
- Genital nudity depicting children or animals is not allowed.
This includes real and fictional children, characters that physically resemble children (even if they aren't, like Baby Doll from Batman), or someone acting in a child-like way (such as a person playing with toys). For example:
- Genital nudity: even if the picture isn't meant to be sexual or suggestive, genital nudity is never allowed.
- Chest nudity: only if there is a clear contextual reason for it (such as a child playing in a pool), and it isn't interpretable as sexual, is chest nudity allowed, but never otherwise.
- Animals: it's not necessary to crop photos of your pets lying on their back or something like that, and you can draw an animal's bulge where it goes, but its genitals should never be depicted as aroused or exposed.
{SUGGESTIVE IMAGES}Suggestive images are images that imply something sexual without directly showing it, or are meant to be sexually provocative, without being outright pornographic. Examples of elements or tropes that make an image suggestive or sexually provocative: - Someone posing in a suggestive way, or placed in a suggestive or revealing situation (like, for example, in a pinup calendar).
- A pinup pose where someone is fully, and normally dressed is fine, though.
- Sex toys, accessories, lingerie, fetishwear, or condoms.
- Excessive flushing in a way that suggests arousal, excessive drooling/ahegao, dirty talk, or moaning.
- Implied sexual acts, regardless of how much is shown.
Suggestive images are not allowed on the NIGHTFORUM or the general channels of the NIGHTCORD. You can only post these in the 18+ channel on Discord. {SEXUAL CONTENT}Sexual content is anything that depicts or discusses sex, sexual acts, or is otherwise sexually explicit. Examples of sexual content include: - A drawing or description of people having sex, or engaging in a sexual act.
- Showing aroused, stimulated, or opened genitals.
- Photos or videos of real people that were taken for sexual reason, even if no acts are shown within them.
- Images or writing created for the purpose of fetish or kink, even if they don't depict nudity or any kind of traditional sexual acts.
Sexual content is not allowed on the NIGHTFORUM or the general channels of the NIGHTCORD. You can only post these in the 18+ channel on Discord, and they should abide by the content rules pinned in there. Fetish:While all fetish content is sexual content, and therefore not allowed on the forum, there's no way to make guidelines on what's allowed and what isn't strictly based on the content itself. There are all sorts of unusual fetishes, and one image that is perfectly innocent when one person draws it, could be a piece of fetish content when another person does. This doesn't mean that it's impossible to tell if something is fetish or not (it's usually pretty obvious), but it means that we're not going to ban drawing realistic feet because some people have foot fetishes. Instead, the fetish content rules rely on good faith, and you should refrain from posting or requesting content made for sexual gratification or fetish, even if it is allowed on the forum otherwise. You should also keep your interactions on here appropriate, so don't leave weird or sexual comments on content that happens to be your fetish, or fish for more, regardless of if you are forward about it being your fetish or not.

- Mature Themes & Gore -
Some subjects are mature because they're not really suited for children, without being sexual in nature at all. For example, discussions about drug use, alcohol, or addiction are mature, because they could set a bad example for children. Certain sensitive or heavy subjects, such as death or abuse, are also considered mature because they may be too upsetting for a younger child. Horror, body horror, splatter/gore and otherwise scary or potentially upsetting content should also be treated like mature content is.
For the most part, these subjects are allowed on the forum, if properly warned for and hidden, with the exception of drug use, alcohol, and addiction. While those things may be mentioned or depicted (with warnings and spoilers), actual talk or discussion about them should go in the 18+ channel on Discord.
There are also some specific rules that apply to gore:
{GORE}While gore is always mature content, it is also, pretty often even, fetish content or something that closely emulates it, which isn't allowed on the forum at all. It can be difficult to make a clear distinction between "tasteful" gore and gore as fetish, because many of the people who draw the latter, don't do it intentionally - but it still isn't allowed even unintentionally. Just like how you're not allowed to post suggestive images, even if they don't have sexual meaning to you personally, you're also not allowed to post gore that emulates fetish content. For example, a drawing of a flustered character in a pinup pose, with gooey candy spilling out of their stomach, or a drawing of a crying character covered in bruises and bleeding injuries, both resemble fetish gore, and aren't appropriate for the forum. - Depictions of bruising, blood, scarring, or small injuries are fine and allowed on the forum.
These are still treated as mature, and should be warned for and hidden.
- Depictions of splatter/excessive blood, large injuries/wounds, depictions of internal organs or meat, graphic violence, and vomit, should be tasteful.
They're only allowed if they aren't drawn in a sexual way or one that resembles fetish. These are also considered mature, and should be warned for and hidden.
- Candy gore, cartoon gore, or otherwise heavily stylized gore, is still gore.
This means it should still follow the rules above.
- Real-life depictions of gore of any kind are not allowed on the forum at all.
At most, you may show photos of bruising, small amounts of blood, or small injuries, and only if warned for and hidden. Healed scarring doesn't need to be hidden or warned for, but fresh scarring and freshly closed injuries does.

- Mature Content & NSFW in Text or Writing - Depictions of mature content and NSFW that aren't visual, for example in writing, are treated the same as visual depictions. Mature content should be warned for and hidden, and NSFW, such as e-roleplay or NSFW fic, isn't allowed at all.
It's fine to mention things like sex or sexuality broadly, since it's fine for children to know these things exist, but you should make sure not to overshare about yourself, or get descriptive, even jokingly. A joke where your character mentions they have sex is probably fine, but one that clarifies their bedroom preferences is too much. Your writing may include a fade-to-black bedroom scene, but no allusions to what actually happens in there.
Also, you should be conscious of who you are interacting with, and how. You share the forum with children, who aren't required to be upfront about their age (and, let's be real, often lie about it, anyway), so you should keep in mind that somone you talk to on the forum may not be an adult, or may simply not be comfortable with mature content coming up in the first place.
If you, as an adult, make inappropriate comments or jokes to a minor, or attempt to roleplay a scene that involves sex (even as a fade-to-black scene) with a minor, or something similar - you will be punished accordingly, even if you didn't know, and even if the minor involved was okay with it, or lied to you about their age.
- Mature Content & NSFW in Music -
Since they play like, whatever on the radio anyway, you're allowed to share music with sexually explicit lyrics. Just don't post the lyrics themselves on the forum, and keep things within reason - you can share Lil Nas X's Old Town Road, but a hentai mashup should probably stay confined in an 18+ channel. If the track is especially sexually tinted, a warning beforehand would be nice, but it won't have to go in a spoiler box since someone needs to first click on it to listen to it anyway.
Music videos on the other hand, should not contain any sexual images or be especially suggestive, and otherwise follow the same rules for mature content as images. If a music video for a song is too sexual to share, then look up a lyric video or something instead.

- Questions About Mature Content & NSFW - Generally, it's better to be safe than sorry, so if you're not entirely sure if something can be posted on the forum, then preferably don't. That said, you're always welcome to ask to make sure! You can either run it by me or one of the community guides with a direct message, or you can ask in the 18+ channel in the NIGHTCORD.
- What to do if you see NSFW content - If you run into NSFW content, or otherwise content not allowed on the forum, please report it. If it's a post or a thread, report that, and if it's a member's username, display picture, or signature, you can report the user profile itself. You can do this even if you're not 100% sure if something is allowed on the forum or not - a moderator will take a look at it and judge that, and then take appropriate action, such as removing the content, and/or warning the original poster. In particular, if you see someone having inappropriate interactions with someone you know is a minor, or a minor themself posting things that would be inappropriate for them to post, then please let a moderator know.
