the day we met. I couldn't describe your smell,
the feel of your skin, or what color you were -
it's been too long, and I know you too well.
I don't really remember,
the sandbox, and then watching the washing machine,
for the hour you were in there,
or the months(!) you shed sand, even after you were clean.
And I really don't remember,
when you became this threadbare, too sunbleached to tell,
or about half of these stains, or chewing off your ear -
it's been too long, and I know you too well.
But then in a funny sort of way,
you flawlessly remember every kiss, spill, touch, tear, and tell.
