(kicking my legs like a lawyer doing paperwork) if yes tell me about it. i fucking love mangas.
heres the few im keeping up with:
mairimashita! iruma-kun — my utterly beloved. local pushover with a miserable life iruma gets sold to a demon and becomes his dearly loved grandson. now with all the time and resources in the world he has a chance to figure himself out while attending demon school. to quote the mangadex description, "Cozy magical slice of life with occasional urban terrorism." despite being a by-the-books shounen and an isekai, it manages to have this very soft, loving tone and some of the best jokes and plot twists ive seen in the genre. invented robin, who is the guy ever. god i love this manga
spy x family — an incredibly skilled spy has to settle down and form a family to help avoid a war, dont think this needs much of an introduction. if youve been awake the past few months youve heard about it honestly didnt intend to read this, picked up the anime because crunchyroll kept shoving it in my face and started reading the manga out of curiosity. its a lot better than i expected it to be, even if i have some qualms with the plot. ill probably continue to keep up with it, im interested to see where they'll be taking it
super smartphone — high school student kyu (nicknamed q) finds a small, cheap phone with nothing but a search engine called 'googugu' on it. despite appearances googugu is capable of searching almost anything—classified records, locations of physical objects, text from journals, etc.. q is tasked with using the phone to obtain points oh man. i cannot lie i read the description and saw the title and thought that this was going to be awful. i went into it expecting the worst and MAN was i wrong. this is still very early on (ch 6 just released today) but it is great and shows a lot of promise to be even better. at its core its a murder mystery, with a lot of emphasis on detective work. it feels quite a bit like death note, but with a protagonist that is a bit more moral
aliens area — technologically advanced aliens frequently target earth for a number of harmful activities, because earth lacks the technology to properly defend itself. tatsumi, who was used as a test subject for an alien implant, is recruited into foreign affairs 5, a government division that strives to protect earth from aliens. this one uh. debuted two weeks ago. very very new, but caught my eye with its interesting worldbuilding and freak looking scientist of a deuteragonist. cant say much about it but im excited to see more, i think it'll be good

I'm really bad at keeping up with manga LOL but there are a few that i stick around for :]
Land of the Lustrous by Haruko Ichikawa
Okay this one feels a little like cheating to put on here because it's been on hiatus for a year and a half so idk if it counts as Keeping Up with it. HOWEVER its coming out of hiatus this month, and the next chapter is set to release in a few days!!! Exciting :) Anyways its a sci-fi/fantasy/action/drama series about a race of sentient gem people living on earth together and going about their lives under the guidance of their sensei, while also fighting to avoid getting killed by a mysterious race of moon people called lunarians that sometimes descend from the sky and shatter the gems to harvest their shiny gem body parts for decoration. The protagonist phosphophyllite (or phos for short) is the youngest of the gems that live together and is too brittle to fight lunarians, so they are tasked with helping build an encyclopedia of the world around them instead. Then things go downhill from there. The art of this manga is soooo pretty and flows super well, the mangaka used to be a graphic designer and likes to incorporate her skill in how she structures the panels of her comic and it Shows. It also has a 3d anime adaptation and the cg looks Phenomenal actually. I wish desperately every day for a second season to be announced, since I think theres plenty of material in the manga to work with (going by the amount that they adapted in the first season) but im holding out hope. One Day. The manga went on hiatus on a pretty brutal cliffhanger back in december 2020, so im excited to see it coming back :)
To Your Eternity by Yoshitoki Ooima A fantasy/supernatural series about the centuries-long journey of an immortal being that can replicate the form of anything it encounters, including living organisms, but only after death. The story follows it as it learns more about itself and the world, and the companions it makes along the way. It's by the same person who made A Silent Voice if you heard of it, but this is a very different kind of story from that LOL. I think it's one of those stories where the less you know about it, the better, so I'll leave it at that, but cw for quite a bit of violence and gore (since the immortal has regeneration abilities some of these scenes are drawn in pretty graphic detail) and also, by nature of the story, a ton of death.
Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama By far this is my favourite manga on this list and also in general, the one I keep up with most consistently, and one i would recommend to literally anyone. Witch Hat Atelier tells the story of Coco, a young girl who wants to become a witch, except witches are born and not raised. Except not really, and after accidentally discovering the secret behind what powers a witch's magic, Coco is thrown into Circumstances in which she suddenly Has to become a witch. There's sooo much to love about this series. For one, the art is phenomenal. It has a very storybook quality to it which really adds to the aesthetic and brings so much life to the characters, which are also phenomenal. The worldbuilding is also incredible and has a lot of thought and care put into it, from the way magic is integrated into society, how witches interact with the world, the ways where magic and medicine intersect, how the use of magic affects people with disabilities, the different methods of learning... I could go on but the bottom line is this story and its world and its characters are so well crafted and unique, and I find myself falling in love with it More and More with each new chapter.
