What it says in the title pretty much; what games would you recommend getting from the 3DS e-shop before funds can no longer be added to it (by the end of August this year)? Mainly looking for e-shop exclusive releases that will no longer be available once the e-shop closes, and not too interested in the virtual console releases - but feel free to recommend whatever, since I imagine there might be others looking for recommendations too. :3 I was thinking of getting: - Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove 3D
It's apparently only like 2 euros in the e-shop (I think they have lowered the price since the last time I checked), and it's a very sweet, cute-creepy themed little rhythm game. (There's a more detailed review here.)
- The Denpa Men trilogy
I own the first game and it's very silly and cute, so I'm pretty curious about the other two! I'm not sure if I would describe them as good games per se, but it really feels like the kind of thing that could only exist on the 3DS, for lack of a better way to put it. It's an RPG in which you catch little guys with the 3DS motion controls, and then navigate dungeons with combat with them.
And as for my own recommendations, I'd suggest picking up: - Pokémon Picross and Pokémon Rumble World
They're free and pretty fun imo! They both have a steep progression curve though because they're designed to try and trick you into buying Pokémon V-bucks, but I trust you all not to fall for micro-transaction scams and that you will ignore this.
- Colors! 3D
This is a drawing application for the 3DS, and if you have any kind of interest in that sort of thing, it's well worth the money.
- The Ace Attorney Trilogy, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, and Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice
The Ace Attorney games are crime-mystery visual novels in which you play as a lawyer. Cartridges of the games are tedious (and expensive) to get, and AA:DD and AA:SoJ were e-shop exclusive releases in the west. They've re-released the trilogy for like every platform imaginable, and they'll probably eventually port AA:DD and AA:SoJ too (so don't worry too much about passing these up), but AA ports aren't really of very good quality, and they're better experienced on the DS/3DS anyway. They do take up quite a bit of space on your SD card though (but IIRC you'll be able to redownload titles you own even after the e-shop closes?)
Other suggestions made in this thread: - 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure, HarmoKnight, and Project Mirai DX (suggested by requinade )
- Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (suggested by lentlsoup )
- Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Treasure, Chase: Cold Case Investigations, RPG Maker Fes, Ash, Plantera, the Parascientific Escape Series, Cocoro Line Defender, Crimson Shroud, and Pokémon Bank / Poké Transporter (suggested by astraldreams)
That's about everything I've got! If anyone else has other suggestions, react to this thread and I'll compile them in this post too (with a link to your post about it)! Thank you! <3

3D Classics Kirby's Adventure is 1000% the best way to play kirby's adventure (does not lag/no input delay like the switch online version or original release) AND it can be played in customizable 3d with more vibrant but faithful spritework! it is a really fun time decided i want ti add more HarmoKnight is a rhythm platformer that is really simple but still fun. It has 7 different lands themed after different music genres + 5 bonus stages with pokemon songs and 8 post-game levels (i cannot beat the last one). you can tell it was made by game freak when you see the rabbit mascot, the whole artstyle is really cute and looks good (i think gamefreak should be allowed to make more than pokemon). the fact that i cant think of any other rhythm platformers makes this unique enough. what else... the clock tower levels are really fucked up but not in a bad way. Project Mirai DX is the only 3ds Miku game outside of japan and the only one legally allowed to use GUMI songs <-worth it for that alone. it's a smaller tracklist but its a REALLY good one (my favorites: reverse rainbow, Daughter of Evil, Tricolore Airline, 1 2 Fanclub) along with the rhythm game, you can interact with your favorite chibi cryptonloid, you can dress them up, play othello with them, give them money, watch them eat food really slowly, and decorate their apartment. If you don't play the game for a long time they with be pouty and upset when you come back until you beg for their forgiveness 50 times. Really good stuff!

Shovel Knight Treasure Trove! While its not technically e-shop exclusive, the physical cartridge is pretty pricey. And while the game is available on other platforms like steam or switch, i really do believe the 3ds version is the best way to experience it. The game was made originally for 3ds so the resolution for the spritework looks the most crisp on that device, plus the second screen is used for choosing items which is made a bit more tedious on other platforms that use only one screen. The game itself is a sidescrolling platformer with gameplay and graphics inspired by the NES. Treasure trove is actually 4 games in one: shovel of hope, plague of shadows, spectre of torment, and king of cards, which each sport a different protagonist with a completely different adventure and playstyle! There is one downside of the 3ds version aside from others, and its that treasure trove on the 3ds doesn't come with a 5th game thats included on other consoles, shovel knight showdown (which is a pvp game using the shovel knight characters) but every campaign can be bought separately on a different console (which is what i did, i had the 3ds version of treasure trove and bought showdown on switch) i really cannot recommend this game enough its so fun and charming ;w;

Noted! :D I had been looking at HarmoKnight actually - I downloaded the demo, but I'm comically bad at rhythm games so even the difficulty of the earliest levels is too high for me LMAO. It's a really sleek and fun-looking game though from what I can tell, so it has been very tempting. I've been having the same dilemma over Rhythm Thief, which does have a physical release, but is unaffordable secondhand. And on the other hand, I've seen Project Mirai DX in stock at my local video game store, so I'm more likely to pick that up physically if I do... but I'll consider it. I'm definitely never getting better at rhythm games if I never play any. Shovel Knight Treasure Trove! While its not technically e-shop exclusive, the physical cartridge is pretty pricey. It's also one of those games I go back and forth on - it really genuinely looks like a fantastic game, but I'm also terrible at video games, and it looks really hard LOL. But I'm definitely keeping it in mind!

HI HELLO I had a phase where I'd snatch up any random games for under 5€ I'd see on the eshop. Not all of my recs are that, but most of them are. Enjoy.
This game did have a physical release (and I played it on cartridge), but my housemate just informed me that they're going for about 50-200 bucks nowadays! Yikes! It's a fun game, but definitely not worth this much, so if you have any interest, get it online while you can. As the title suggests it's a rhythm game, with a story centered around a young gentleman thief named Raphael/Phantom R. The game follows him as he meets new people and discovers hidden secrets about the city (and his past), and storywise it's pretty good! The plot is nice, the characters are funny, and it's just overall a good time. As far as I can tell, there was intended to be a sequel which then was never made, so the game ends on a somewhat open note/teases an upcoming mystery, but it's still fairly contained within itself. As for the gameplay, it's got a bunch of pretty straightforward rhythm minigames and does a nice job of increasing the difficulty over time, but it is also very much a 3DS game. Which is to say they tried to utilize all features of the system in the minigames, including some motion controlled ones. Those... aren't very good. The rest though are fun, mostly simple and intuitive and I still go back replaying some of them now (and I'm not usually big on rhythm games)!
Overall I'd say it's a solid 8/10, and if you're a rhythm game enjoyer (or just like stories about french little guys, I suppose), it's worth the 20 bucks it costs in digital form. A full story playthrough took me about 10hrs.
An eshop exclusive visual novel. By the same guy who made Hotel Dusk (but as far as I can tell unrelated to that series? IDK I've never played Hotel Dusk. Actually, my housemate is telling me that it's a lot more complicated than that, so I'd rec looking into it yourself LOL), about two detectives trying to solve a murder at a hospital. The gameplay is fairly basic (choose questions to ask suspects, and some minimal investigation- think Ace Attorney, but a bit easier), but it's a visual novel so that's to be expected. The story itself was pretty good and watching the mystery unravel was fun, but this game was definitely supposed to have a sequel it never ended up getting, and it shows. The general case gets wrapped up (IIRC?), but there are strong implications of it being tied into bigger circumstances and connected to the MCs tragic backstory, and none of that ever gets answered and the ending was a cliff hanger. That being said, I still had fun playing it and I would recommend it! It's only 6€ on the eshop, and IIRC I got a good 4 hours of playtime out of it.
Pretty much what it says on the tin, it's a software to make your own classic RPGs on the 3DS. I haven't bought or tried out the maker myself, so I can't actually speak on that LOL, but from what I've seen it seems to be pretty decent? The main reason I'm reccing this is for the Player, which is free and allows you to play any games uploaded by the people using the maker! As is to be expected the games itself are very varying in quality, theme, length, and pretty much Everything, but there's a few fun ones in there, and it's got a decent search function. It's been a solid while since I've opened or even looked at the ones I've downloaded, but I might update this post with actual recs for games within it too at some point!
A pretty classic turn based RPG! I'm gonna be fully transparent, I do not remember anything about the actual story or game (it's been like 5 years since I played it!), but I do remember that I had fun and it was the one cheap RPG I bought that I also actually finished all the way. It's also only 4 bucks.
(Honorary mention to Justice Chronicles and Chronus Arc, two other cheap RPGs I bought at the same time as this one and then never really got around to playing much. I must have bought them for a reason though! So maybe check it out! They both have Switch ports now too, it looks like.)
A cute little idle game! You have a little garden and plant trees, bushes, and animals (well. You don't plant those). More plants and animals means more money, which means you can buy more plants and animals, which means more money, which means etc etc etc... There's nothing more to it! It's cute! Also has a Steam release, but personally I'd rather play it on my 3DS and have it with me on the go. Only 5€, and about as much play time as you're willing to put into it.
Trilogy of room escape visual novels. Play as a highschooler w/ paranormal powers (first and third game) and a detective w/ time powers (second and third game) as they try to solve mysteries and escape rooms. As far as the genre goes, they're fairly straightforward, nothing more but also nothing less. I haven't finished the last game yet, so I don't fully know how the story concludes, but the world is interesting and what I've seen so far it's been fun! The detective's gimmick of rewinding time/seeing the past is especially very fun and made the room escapes pretty cool! Each game is 5€ (so 15€ for the whole trilogy), and I took about 4hrs to beat the first one, and am 5.5hrs into the second one (and on second thought may not actually have finished it yet, though I'd probably be close to the end).
A little strategy game similiar to the Age of War/Stickman Defense/etc games (I don't know what that genre is called LOL). You select certain units with weapon types, they get sent out against the enemy's, you gotta destroy their base before they get yours. Straightforward and simple, I have fun with it. I'm also very bad at it (and all games like these). The art is cute, and the units are divided up into fire, water, air, and earth elementals w/ cute designs each. It's 4 bucks on the eshop, but may already not be available in all regions anymore.
An RPG that uses dicerolls to determine success/failure of attacks and important actions (a tribute to TTRPGs). I'm not very far into it, but so far it's been pretty fun, if a bit difficult, and I like the dice gimmick! It's hard to pull off in video games IMO, but it feels fun in this one! I'm a bit over an hour into it and don't think I've left the beginning of the game yet, so it's probably decently lengthed too, for 8€.
Software that allows you to move Pokemon from the DS era games to and inbetween the different 3DS era games (and probably further into the Switch era games? I don't really know how Pokemon Home works, but I assume it can link into Bank). Used to run on a yearly subscription model ( ), but it's been said that after the eshop shuts down it will be free to use. Just convenient to have if you're a Pokemon player!

HI HELLO I had a phase where I'd snatch up any random games for under 5€ I'd see on the eshop. Not all of my recs are that, but most of them are. Enjoy.
[...] HI Hello I see I Have Activated you. I'm taking note of all of these, thank you! Quite a few things in there I've never ever even heard of, so I'll look into them LOL. They do sound exactly like the kind of games I'd buy too (when they're under 5 bucks) though so I'm sure I'm gonna have a field day with this. Especially pretty interested in the Parascientific Escape Series - you really managed to make it sound so perfectly middling that I think I should play it. Out of these (not counting Pokémon Bank / Transporter obviously), only Plantera and Chase: Cold Case Investigations I'm really familiar with... I've played Plantera on PC ( Steam release), and it really just is a nice, simple idle game. I'm seconding that recommendation (though you're not missing anything if you pass it up on the 3DS). Chase is a bit more complicated - I haven't played it myself (and maybe I will, just so I can finally tell you what the deal with it actually is), but I've been under the impression it's not-quite-unrelated, not-quite-related to Hotel Dusk/Last Window? CiNG, the company that made Hotel Dusk, went bankrupt in 2010, and the people working on it later made Chase under Arc System Works. The game has (apparently) a lot of similarities to the Hotel Dusk series, including recycled designs for the main characters, which makes me think that they had wanted to make another Hotel Dusk series entry, but that they might have had to change things around because of licensing issues or something like that. That's just my personal theory though, and again, I haven't played it (yet). From everything I hear, there was supposed to be a sequel to Chase as well, but it was received pretty poorly, so that never was made either. It's... kind of a sad story overall, since Hotel Dusk/Last Window are very good games, and very well-loved by the people who have played them.
I'm going to bed soon, but I'll update my main post with your recs tomorrow!!

Hello! Been a while since my last post in here - I got occupied with Art Fight, but I've since been slowly going through the e-shop and sorting out my wishlist on there. I also have a couple more recommendations, but for the majority of these, you should know I haven't played them, nor will have time for that soon. Starting the 29th of this month, you will no longer be able to add funds to the 3ds e-shop in any way. This marks the end of being able to purchase games, except for those of you who make dubious life choices, among which loading up an excess of credit onto a closing store. Games I have since bought:- Of Mice And Sand
This is a resource-management game in which you guide a bunker ship of mice across the desert. As you progress further, you gain more materials, craft new items, and meet more dangerous enemies and hazards. It's well-made. The graphics are cute and the music is very atmospheric and relaxing. The storytelling is nice, too. I haven't finished it, but it's really sucked me in since I started playing it. You're not missing out if you don't get it for the 3DS though - it's a digital-only release, but it seems to have an (improved) port for PC, Switch, and PS4. Currently discounted to like 4 euro.
- Dodge Club Pocket
Arcade-type game in which you control a pixel square, and have to dodge pixel hazards on the screen in little mini-challenges. Honestly, it's not that good LMAO but the lore in the background is sort of cute and for some reason one of these pixel squares is bisexual or something. I guess you could check this out if you like arcade-style minigames, just know that it's like, just one mini-game really. Should be available on phone too.
- SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Dig 2, SteamWorld Heist
I haven't actually gotten around to playing these, but they're games that have passed peer review and should all be pretty solid titles - they're also all currently discounted for about 2, 4, and 3 euros respectively. Post-apocalyptic setting with robots, Wild West sci-fi sort of thing, turn-based platformer? You're not missing per se if you pass these up, because the SteamWorld games are popular enough that they not only have ports, but also newer titles for the Switch - but they are very cheap right now, and I would recommend them just from having seen others play them.
- Harvest Moon - Tale Of Two Towns
It's a HM title, which are all pretty formulaic. It's a farm sim, you grow crops, manage a farm, make friends with townsfolk and can get married. It's here because it was discounted to 4 euros in the e-shop, which is a steal for the kind of game it is. As for if I'd recommend it, depends on if you like HM games.
- Drancia Saga, Fairune 2, Alchemic Dungeons
I own Fairune, and I really like it. It's a small RPG with more puzzle-solving than really combat. I also played Kingdom's Item Shop somewhat recently, and liked it, even if it was a bit simple. I stand by that the Fairune Collection (a port with some bonus content) is the best way to experience Fairune, but I've been wanting to try more of Skipmore and FlyHigh Work's games, and none of these are over 5 euros, so I figure I may as well purchase them - including Fairune 2, as I like to replay Fairune 1 on the 3DS occasionally, despite owning it on Switch, too. I've only played Fairune 2 out of these, but they should all be little RPGs. Alchemic Dungeons should have a Switch port as well, and both developers have other games out on the Switch to try, but Drancia Saga seems to be left behind on the 3DS for now. You're probably not really missing if you don't get it, but the prices of these should be fair to the games they are.
- Adventure Bar Story (2,50), Sadame (3,-), Chronus Arc (5,-)
More RPGs, which I haven't played and couldn't tell you more about than a gameplay video could. All of these are currently discounted, so if you enjoy RPGs in general, they may be worth taking a look at while they're on sale.
- Chase (6,-), Parascientific Escape Series (discounted to 2,50 pp), Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove (2,-)
All of these were mentioned in earlier posts.
- Waku Waku Sweets
Waku Waku Sweets is a Cooking Mama-style minigames cooking game, and was discounted to 2,- when I bought it - it's since no longer on sale, though, and at the full price of like... 25? You may as well wait for it to go on sale on the Switch if you really deeply desire it.
- Pixel Paint (4,-), Sleep Clock (2,-)
These are apps, not games. To make pixel art, and to track sleeping habits respectively. Not much else to say about these, really. If that's the sort of thing you feel you would use, you don't need me to recommend it.
That wraps up the games I've purchased so far! There's still quite a few I intend to buy before the 29th, but I've started with games that were on sale, or under 5 euros.
I also plan to most likely pick up the remainder of the Denpa Men trilogy, HarmoKnight, Severed, Plantera, Shovel Knight, Cave Story, and Attack of the Friday Monsters, all of which I plan to put off until the last week or so to make sure that they aren't still going on sale before then. I'm also tentative about Gurumin 3D, Chibi-Robo, Shantae & the Pirate's Curse, Butterfly Inchworm Animation 2, Pocket Football Club, and a really shitty-looking fishing game called Family Fishing. And then another handful of pretty cheap RPGs I may get for no particular reason. The e-shop lets you filter by RPG as a genre, so you don't really need my help if you want to look at all the weird little RPGs below 5 euros.
I'll probably be back with some more as I buy more games throughout this month, but for now this is about everything worth mentioning.
If anyone else has recommendations left to make (including if you just want to like, second or add onto games already mentioned here) - I'd love to hear them. Before the 29th if possible.
